Defibrillator Training

18th Oct 2024
We were so pleased to have the opportunity to learn how our school defibrillator works.  We invited Joy Hynds, manager of Owen Mor Care Home and mum of Katy, in to give us a training demonstration.  She gave us lots of information on how it works, allowed us to pass the defib around and get a look at the electrode pads inside it and showed us a great training video.  We researched how much a defib is to buy and were initially surprised at the cost but then realised that for such an important piece of live saving equipment it was a small cost to pay.  We discussed where ours is located and why that location was chosen, how it is a community resource even though it stays in our school and how it is only ever to be used by an adult, although the children may be asked to get it for an adult to use.  The knowledge has made us feel really empowered as a class and we will spread the word that this resource is there for the community to use if needed.  A special thank you to Joy for taking the time out of her day to come into school and educate us.
