Wow, what a fantastic afternoon we’ve had with Emily and her team from the ‘Hedgerow Heroe’s’ project. A few weeks ago we chose a planting site for our new hedge but when we tested the area today we realised that the soil was too shallow with too many rocks beneath. Thankfully we had a backup site in mind which was perfect. We got our wellies and gloves on, grabbed our shovels and off we went.
Firstly, we made a ‘T’ shape in the soil with our spade, dug down to create a hole about 30cm deep, planted our ‘whip’ then covered it back up with the soil. We planted each tree 40cm apart in 2 rows of 20m. We are so excited to watch the hedge grow and see what wildlife comes to visit.
