I wonder how much of an iceberg is underwater?
23rd Sep 2019
Do you know the answer? 🤔 Almost 90% of an iceberg is hidden underwater. This is why they are so dangerous to ships as they can only see the ‘tip of the iceberg’. The officers on the bridge of the Titanic only had 37 seconds to react before it hit the iceberg.
In our experiment, we discovered how much more quickly ice melts with just a slight increase in water temperature. We did this by measuring the circumference of an ‘iceberg’ and the water temperature at 1minute intervals for 5 minutes. We found that when the water temperature was higher the iceberg melted quicker.
