Maths Week TV

16th Oct 2024
Today we joined in with Maths Week TV.  We explore the unusual properties of Zoe Griffith’s favourite shapes, including cutting up mobius loops and problem solving with paper folding. Our first challenge was to make our hand go from palm up to palm down without twisting our wrist.  Can you do it?  We then explored the mobius loop and were able to cut along the full length of the shape without cutting the paper into 2 pieces.  Our next challenge was to cut out a rectangle from the middle of a piece of paper using as few cuts as possible.  What do you think the lowest number of cuts is?  Would you be surprised if I said 1?  Our minds were blown too as we could do it in 2 but didn't get as low as 1.
