Let’s make a boat

18th Sep 2019

We had so much fun making a boat in class today. We all managed to get soaked and we did tip A LOT of water on the floor 💦 sorry Nancy and Ian but this added to the fun! The challenge was to make a self propelled boat using 3 materials:

  1. A piece of corrugated plastic
  2. 1 elastic band
  3. Scissors

We started off in groups but found the challenge quite difficult. Some groups managed to make their boat move a few cm but when we evaluated them we decided that they were as successful as the Titanic itself! Once we decided they needed a propeller the challenge became much easier and we all managed to make a successful boat second time round.

Our biggest lesson was how science is a game of trial, error and improvement and the value of team work. A great afternoon of fun had by all!
